Some wedding days just stick with you — and this Homer, Alaska elopement is one I’ll never forget.

They chose to get married on a bluff overlooking Kachemak Bay, with towering mountains in the distance and wildflowers framing the view. It was peaceful, real, and so deeply personal. Just the two of them, their bestie officiating for them, and the kind of scenery that makes you stop and breathe it all in.

I LIVE for brides getting in the water on their wedding day.

One of my favorite moments was after the ceremony, when we took time to explore the beach together. The wind played with her dress, the ocean shimmered behind them, and everything felt soft and surreal. Then — she walked straight into the water. Yep, full dress, no hesitation. She stepped into the freezing Alaskan ocean and just laughed. It was one of those perfectly unplanned, bold, beautiful moments that felt exactly like what elopements are meant to be.

And it didn’t stop there.

Still barefoot and sandy, we headed straight to the iconic Salty Dawg Saloon. She walked into that dark, cozy bar with her wedding dress trailing behind her like it was the most natural thing in the world (and honestly, in Homer — it kind of is). Locals clapped. Strangers bought them drinks. It was a celebration in the most Alaska way possible — totally unpolished, totally unforgettable.

That’s what I love about photographing elopements here in Homer.

You get these big, cinematic backdrops and quiet, intimate energy. You can hike a mountain or dip your toes in the ocean, say your vows at the edge of the world, and end the night laughing in a bar that feels like it’s straight out of a movie.
